How to take care of dry skin?

How do you care for dry skin? If you suffer from dry skin, you have of course asked yourself this question. By nourishing your skin, of course. But not only that. Taking care of your dry skin involves a number of beauty habits. Make-up removal, cleansing, moisturising and daily care... We explain everything.

Dry skin care: gentle cleansing

 Dry skin can cause feelings of tightness and discomfort. Sometimes it itches. Your first step is to avoid aggravating the situation when cleansing your face. To do this, you need to adopt the appropriate habits:

  • Avoid harsh soaps or shower gels. Choose superfatted bars or gels, enriched with protective and moisturising ingredients;
  • Water that is too hot can dry out the skin causing irritation. We recommend a temperature between 32 and 34°C;
  • Take short showers. Water is often hard and irritates the skin;
  • Dry yourself gently by patting, not rubbing.

Dry skincare: the “emollient” option

 Do you know about emollients? These are skincare products that provide the skin with moisturising properties. They restore suppleness to the skin.

If your skin is moderately (to severely) dry, apply your emollient after the shower. This is best because it spreads more easily on slightly damp skin. Warm it in your hands, then dot it all over your body. Gently press in with the entire surface of your hand.

Obviously, avoid rubbing to avoid irritating your skin. It will quickly become softer, hydrated and protected . The skin’s moisture barrier will also be restored.

A quick tip: if your skin is very dry, use a Cold Cream - particularly nourishing, protective and softening - as part of your skin care routine for a few days, preferably in the evening.

As my skin changes according to the season, in the summer I prefer light moisturisers and in the winter I prefer richer creams.

FRIENDLY (AND EXPERT) ADVICE

Skincare: focus on vitamins

Choosing the right nutrients is also important for healthy skin. Focus on skincare products and foods rich in:

  • Vitamin C. It particularly helps to fight against free radicals (the cause of oxidative stress). With a good supply of ascorbic acid (its scientific name), your complexion will be more radiant. On the skincare side, you will find them in serums that will enhance the effect of your day cream. When it comes to food, try kiwis or blackcurrants;
  • Vitamin E.Is an antioxidant and protects skin daily. Again, serums are best. In the kitchen, you can find it in vegetable oils or almonds.

Never forget to remove your make-up

Makeup removal is an essential step in your skincare routine. The most important thing is to do it every day for a beautiful and radiant skin!

Use cleansing milk

Forget cotton, which is often too rough and aggressive. Apply the cleansing milk using fingertips in circular movements. This will help to remove the impurities that have built up during the day. Then remove excess with a reusable wipe or cotton pad.

For added softness

To perfect your make-up removal and give your skin a little more softness, moisten your washable cotton pad with Avène Thermal Spring Water. This simple action is enough to reinforce the refreshing effect of the cleansing milk.

How do you nourish dry skin?

Cleanse your skin. Protect it. The final step is to nourish it. To do this, choose a nourishing care product that you can apply morning and evening after spraying your Spring Water. The effects of the evening will be added to those of the day.

A quick tip: in winter, when the skin is drier, opt for rich textures. In summer, go for light textures.
