How do you care for dehydrated skin?
Unlike dry skin, which is permanently dry, dehydrated skin is only occasionally dry. What are the reasons for this? Which products should I use? Here are some tips on how to make life easier!
To properly care for dehydrated skin, you first need to understand the causes of dehydration. There are many reasons for this: weather conditions, unsuitable products, ageing... These causes all have the same effect: wind, cold, sun, heating, air conditioning, astringent cosmetics and skin ageing all contribute to altering the hydrolipidic film that is supposed to retain moisture in the epidermis.
As a result, the moisture evaporates too quickly and makes the skin uncomfortable, both on the face and on the body.
This feelings of tightness due to dehydration, this lack of radiance and suppleness, this exacerbated sensitivity concern all skin types: oily, normal, mixed or dry.
When my skin is dehydrated, it feels very tight, my lips are dry and my skin feels too tight for my face.
To restore the hydrolipidic film of the epidermis and reduce transepidermal water loss as much as possible, opt for products containing lipids – to lock in moisture – and you guessed it: hydrating active ingredients!
When it comes to texture, you have the choice: a light emulsion if your skin is dehydrated, oily, normal or combination, a creamy texture if your dry skin needs extra comfort and a gel texture for all skin types.
Apply these skincare products every day using gentle strokes: smooth a pea-sized amount of cream onto the fingertips, apply to the cheeks, forehead and neck, then smooth from the centre towards the contours of the face and neck. A serum, mask and scrub will complete this daily routine.
The skin's moisture level depends on factors beyond our control (such as skin ageing) and on things we can influence. This means that the loss of moisture is often greater in winter, when there is a tendency to turn up the heating: the dry air accelerates the evaporation of water from the skin. The greater the difference between the outside temperature and the inside temperature, the more fragile the skin. At home, for example, you can use a humidifier to keep your skin well hydrated. The same applies in summer: air conditioning also dries out the atmosphere and affects the balance of your skin. To limit these effects, remember to drink enough water in summer of course, but also in winter!
Your thirsty skin needs a gentle touch. Warm rather than hot water for washing, gentle cleansing products containing moisturising and nourishing agents, and care products adapted to light or creamy textures, depending on your needs... and your desires!
