| UVAs penetrates the epidermis (upper layer of the skin) and disperses in the dermis (second layer of the skin). They alter elastic fibres of the skin and are responsible for premature skin ageing. They play a role in the onset of certain skin cancers regardless of any of the four skin types. UVBs only have the strength to penetrate the epidermis. They stimulate melanin, leading to the appearance of a tan in 48 hours. They are responsible in the short term for sunburn and causing sensitive skin and in the long term for premature skin ageing and the onset of certain skin cancers. |
