Dehydrated Skin

An adult's skin is made up of 70% water.  This represents about 20% of all the water in the body.

It is distributed unevenly throughout the different cell layers that make up the skin:

60 - 70% in the dermis
20 - 30% in the epidermis
10 - 20% in the upper layer

Water is diffused regularly and continuously through the dermis to the surface of the skin, moistening the different layers of the skin. When it reaches the upper layer, the water evaporates. An intact hydrolipidic film helps regulate evaporation.

How to recognise dehydrated skin?

Skin concerns can arise when your skin becomes dehydrated.  Some of the following characteristics of dehydrated skin will appear in any of the four skin types:

Dull complexion
Uneven texture with fine
lines
Dry and dehydrated, the sensitive skin becomes easily irritated and develops fine lines
Oily and dehydrated, the sensitive skin is rough and may develop skin blemishes such as scales

Our skin expertise has enabled us to develop two ranges to help the skin concerns associated with dehydrated skin.  Discover Hydrance Optimale and the Eau Thermale Avène hydrating range both having the Avène water as a key ingredient.
